I'm holding a Campo del Cielo Meteorite from Argentina. 4.5 billion years old! They are the formers of our planet but they have also nearly destroyed it as well. #AsteroidDay

Today is #AsteroidDay☄️? I’m forever grateful to be part of the Planetary Science community. Here’s some tiny pieces of a martian meteorite called Nakhla, alongside my smol mortar and pestle used to crush it last summer. Sad I can’t get back to lab and finish my experiments yet!

Luis Alvarez, received the 1968 Nobel Prize in Physics for his research in elementary particle physics. However he is probably more famous for publishing the theory that the dinosaurs became extinct after an asteroid collided with Earth 65 million years ago. #AsteroidDay

Scary. I took these photos from the @Space_Station. They show 2 meteorite impact craters in Chad (Sahara), 13 & 14 km wide. Imagine how many times your city could fit in them. To avoid future impacts, works with international partner agencies on space safety. #AsteroidDay

#AsteroidDay☄️In 1908, the “Tunguska Event”,Russia. Though considered the largest recorded impact event in history, no crater has been found; the object is thought to have disintegrated at an altitude of 5 to 10 kilometres rather than to have hit the surface of the Earth.
