Why every page deserves its own chat room

Comment sections are run by the site. Ours is run by the people reading it.

Most sites have closed their comment sections or hand-pick which comments appear. Readers moved their conversations to other platforms, away from the page they were talking about.

The conversation belongs next to the page

RealtimeWeb puts a small bar at the bottom of every page. Open it and you are in a room with everyone else reading the same address right now.

Ratings mean more when the site can't delete them.

What we learned in the beta

Over eight weeks, 3,200 testers opened chats on 41,000 pages. Three patterns stood out.

  • Recipe and how-to pages had the most helpful chats.
  • Shop pages drew the most ratings, and the most fake ones.
  • News pages needed slow mode during breaking stories.
